Roshni’s holistic model prepares young women to succeed
in three key aspects of life:
personal, academic, and professional.
Roshni students come from economically and socially disadvantaged backgrounds, and the majority of them live below the poverty line where gender biases are prevalent. They must overcome social and emotional obstacles before they can begin planning for college and job opportunities. Roshni equips them with the life skills, awareness, and resources to achieve stability in their personal lives, which serves as the foundation for future academic and professional progress.
Roshni students are highly motivated and aspire to pursue a higher education; however most of them are at risk of getting married before graduating from high school. As first generation learners at under-resourced schools, they lack knowledge of the college application process, financial resources and family support. Roshni provides training, guidance and scholarships to pursue a college education.
Roshni students pursue college with the goal of having professional careers as doctors, lawyers, executives, and educators in the long-term. However, in the short-term, they need part-time jobs to pay their college fees and to generate income to support their families. Roshni equips them with the job skills, mentors, and access to employers so they can become economically self-sufficient and as a result, Roshni graduates become respected decision makers in their families.
